“$50.00 per inch! That’s what 2 extremely rare palm seedlings just sold for! No, we didn’t grow them. A grower in Miami did and sold them to a private collector in CA for $300.00 each. The palm is called Lavoixia macrocarpa (Clinosperma macrocarpa) and is an endangered species native to New Caledonia in the South Pacific. The seeds are only available every 10 years and have to be germinated in lab conditions with strict tolerances. We estimate the small palm seedling pictured has only about a 20% chance of reaching adulthood. This sale is the highest price paid for a palm seedling that we know of.
